Spirit of Paper

Spirit of Paper / Geest van Papier, 2004

The text part of this book concentrates on cultures first using paper for spiritual and religious purposes:

Catholic prayer prints, Islamic paper, Korean Funeral paper flowers, the paper of the Aztecs, and the beautiful chapter by Rogier Uytenboogaart about an isolated Japanese group of people using paper to worship their spirits.

The design by Loes Schepens gives the book a rich and religious image. If you look at the side of the book you see, in between the specially made white paper by Meersen & Palm, several colored papers that correspond with the different stories.

The catalogue section is larger because Coda, Museum Apeldoorn  joined Museum Rijswijk in the Paper Biennial. The number of artists increased.
